Honor
“The Principle of Honor: Upward, Inward, and Outward”
1. Honoring God First (Upward Honor)
Proverbs 3:9 – “Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase.”
Honor begins with God. Before you honor people, positions, or platforms—you must honor the One who gave you life.
Honor is shown through priority, not just words.
What you give God first reveals what you value most
Worship, obedience, and giving are all expressions of honor
1 Samuel 2:30 – “Them that honor me I will honor…”
2. Honoring the People God Placed in Your Life (Relational Honor)
Exodus 20:12 – “Honor thy father and thy mother…”
God commands us to honor specific relationships—parents, leaders, elders, and those who labor in our lives.
Honor is not based on perfection—it’s based on position.
You can disagree and still honor
Dishonor breaks connection and blocks blessing
Supporting Scripture:
1 Timothy 5:17 – “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor…”
3. Honoring Others Through Humility (Outward Honor)
Romans 12:10 – “…in honor preferring one another.”
Honor is not just what you give upward or required relationally—it’s how you treat everyone. Honor is revealed in how you treat people who can do nothing for you.
